THE ALL NIGHT JAZZ QUINTET
The All Night Jazz Quintet is comprised of Victorian College of The Arts Improvisation students. Their repertoire consists of the enormous cannon of 20th century Jazz; all the classics and many lesser-known classics.
The All Night Jazz Quintet can perform for you in many different line-ups; Piano Trio (with Drums and Double Bass), Saxophone Trio (with Drums and Double Bass), Instrumental Quintet (Drums, Double Bass, Piano, Tenor Sax, Alto Sax) and Vocal Quartet (Drums, Double Bass, Piano, Female Voice). Their Vocal Quartet can also perform as a Vocal Quintet with the addition of Saxophone (Tenor or Alto).

JAMIL ZACHARIA
Jamil Zacharia is one of the most promising young jazz guitarists in Melbourne. He has reached a level of musical skill that belies his age, effortlessly conjuring melodic statements whilst staying true to the spirit of traditional jazz music.
Jamil’s potential was first acknowledged at age 17 when he bypassed his final year of school to gain early entry into a Bachelor of Contemporary Music at Southern Cross University in Lismore with renowned guitarist Jim Kelly. His musical skill is continuing to be developed at the VCA where he is studying his second year of a Bachelor of Music Performance (Improvisation) with teachers Peter Petrucci, Geoff Hughes and Ben Hauptmann.
Jamil’s ensemble can also include a double bass, percussion and saxophone.

MARTY HICKS
Marty has been an avid piano player and enthusiast since the age of six. An accomplished student of jazz, classical and everything in between, he has had the opportunity to play for esteemed ensembles and events around Australia as well as musical expeditions to China, New York and Monterey.
Currently in his third year at the VCA studying a Bachelor of Music Performance (Improvisation), Marty has extensive experience playing for private and corporate events, and has performed alongside Ross Irwin, Tim Davies, Leroy Jones, Don Burrows, Chuck Findley, Eugene Wright, James McLean, Geoff ‘Coxy’ Cox, Bob Mintzer, Eugene Ball and James Sherlock.
Marty can perform solo, or in an ensemble with custom instrumentation.

MILESTONES
Milestones comprises of contemporary jazz musicians Richard Butler (tenor saxophone), Lincoln McKenzie (jazz guitar), Steve Hornby (double bass) and Jordan Scotney (drum kit), all currently studying their 3rd year of the Bachelor of Music Performance (Improvisation) at the VCA.
Individually they have played and studied with some of the biggest names in Australian jazz including Julien Wilson, Steve Magnusson and Tony Gould. Together the quartet has been making a name for itself as one of the most exciting and sophisticated young jazz acts in Melbourne. Highlights for the band so far include performances at the Melbourne International Jazz Festival and Melbourne’s Moomba Festival in 2010.
Milestones can also feature the stellar vocal talents of fellow VCA student Shannon Busch, covering an extensive repertoire of classics from the jazz, blues and soul legacy. This group is a perfect choice for either laid back cool or upbeat swinging.

OH PEP!

Songwriters Olivia Hally and Pepita Emmerichs formed Oh Pep! in 2009 at the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School. Since then the duo has expanded piece by piece welcoming to the group band members Paddy Montgomery-bouzouki,mandolin,harms(Meyhane), Justin Olsson-drums(Fearless Vampire Killers) and Stuart West-double bass,harms(The Box Rockets) to produce enthrallingly catchy folk/pop.
With their shared love of folk music and good songwriters, the duo through to five-piece play a mixture of classic songs by artists such as Leonard Cohen, Paul Kelly, Woodie Guthrie, Bob Dylan and Joni Mitchell among many others. In 2011 Oh Pep! won the Maldon Folk Festival writing competition with their track ‘Fooling Around.’ They’ve since enjoyed support slots with the likes of Liz Stringer, Deborah Conway and The Vaudeville Smash.

PEP TALK
Pep Talk was formed in early 2011 by violinist Pepita Emmerichs and her friends and fellow Improvisation students at the VCA Stephen Hornby (double bass) and Lincoln McKenzie (guitar).
Through a shared passion for gypsy jazz, jazz standards, modern bossa nova and Latin they have a rich and diverse repertoire of music perfect as a backdrop or feature performance for all celebratory occasions.
